Dr. Kassim is currently Associate Medical Director at Nine Circles Community Health Centre, Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and research affiliate in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at the University of Manitoba. He also holds appointments at Cancer Care Manitoba, and Shared Health Manitoba.

Dr. Kassim obtained his undergraduate degree in honours life science, his Master’s degree in molecular immunology, virology and inflammation which was focused on HIV-1 co-infections in women at McMaster University. He has completed medical training at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and has completed residency training in Medical Microbiology, the Clinical Investigator Program and Family Medicine at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Kassim also holds a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene obtained from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in the United Kingdom.

Dr. Kassim’s research has been focused on viral infections, HIV-1 co-infections and testing. He has also been involved in clinical trials of novel vaccines in the past. Dr. Kassim hopes to focus on issues in combating HIV-related stigma, health inequities, access to care including point of care testing, preventative, and issues surrounding HIV care in immigrant, urban and Indigenous patients. He is also a strong proponent of novel technologies in the delivery of high-quality medicine, including virtual care. Dr. Kassim is currently co-investigator on CTN 332 Virtual PrEP: Rendering PrEP delivery more efficient using an mHealth intervention and TAF/FTC.
