Dr. Sergio Rueda is an Independent Scientist in the Institute for Mental Health Policy in the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. Additionally, he is an Assistant Professor in the Institute of Health Policy Management and Evaluation, in the Institute of Medical Science, and in the Department of Psychiatry in the University of Toronto. He is also an Adjunct Scientist in the Institute for Work and Health.
Dr. Rueda began his academic career in the University of Venezuela, studying Psychology. Following, he received his Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology in the Military Hospital of Caracas. He then went on to the University of Toronto to pursue his Master of Science and PhD in Clinical Epidemiology.
As an Independent Scientist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, he is responsible for providing leadership and scientific expertise to a portfolio of CIHR-funded projects currently underway examining the economic and social challenges of people with mental health conditions and those living with HIV, and the impact of these conditions on health outcomes and quality of life. He is a principal investigator or co-investigator of several provincial and national observational cohorts that provide the basis for a more granular understanding of the impact of up- and down- stream determinants on health and well-being, which will be used to inform programs, services and policies.
