Dr. Michel Alary has many of positions in Québec. He is a Member of the Executive Committee in the Clinical Department of Preventive Medicine and a Professor in the Department of Social and Preventative Medicine in Laval University. He is also a Member of the Population Health Research Unit and Medical Advisor for infectious diseases in the Community Health Department of Hospital Saint-Sacrement. Additionally, in Nova Scotia, he is a Member of the Population Health Research Unit and an External Scholar in the School of Graduate Studies in Dalhousie University.
Dr. Alary’s academic background is extensive. He received his Diploma of College Studies, Doctorate in Medicine, and License from the Medical Council of Canada in Sherbrooke University. He obtained his Masters of Sciences and PhD in Epidemiology. He then became a Post-doctoral student in the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, having received a Fellowship from the National Health Research and Development Program and from the Fonds de la Recherche en Santé du Québec.
He is primarily interested in conducting epidemiologic and prevention research on HIV and other sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections among the most vulnerable populations. Specifically, he is focusing on female sex workers and their male sexual partners in West Africa and India, as well as people who inject drugs and men who have sex with men in Canada.
