Dr. Jean-Guy Baril is a physician at the Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal and an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the Université de Montréal. He is also the chair of the Comité consultatif sur la prise en charge clinique des personnes vivant avec le VIH/SIDA pour le ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux in Montreal, the co-director of the FRSQ – AIDS and Infectious Diseases Network, and the director of the Clinique médicale du Quartier latin in Montreal.

He earned his medical degree at the Université de Montréal and completed a multi-disciplinary residency at the Hôpital Saint-Luc.

Dr. Baril’s main research interests are clinical phase II and III trials in HIV infection treatment and cohort studies for research in epidemiology, basic science, resistance to antiretrovirals, immunity, and co-morbidities.

Dr. Baril has served as co-investigator for five CTN studies, including CTN 268: IPERGAY, which was an international study involving investigators in both Canada and France investigating the effectiveness of an on-demand pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and CTN 286: TriiAdd, which examined whether a single-tablet antiretroviral treatment (Triumeq) is more effective than existing combination medications. He was also involved in three studies in the Vaccines and Immunotherapies Core: CTN 247, 256, and 257.
