The CIHR Canadian HIV Trials Network (CTN/Network) is an innovative partnership funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research to conduct clinical trials of the highest scientific and ethical standards involving treatments, prevention and vaccines for HIV and related health conditions. The CTN supports and promotes the principle of greater involvement of people living with HIV (GIPA) in all its activities.
The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) was created in 1993 to provide formal community input to the Network regarding clinical research. Members review clinical trial proposals and informed consents and make recommendations to the Network’s Steering Committee. CAC meets at least twice yearly in person and by teleconference as needed. The Network pays small honoraria for reviews and travel expenses for meetings.
CAC is currently seeking nominations from community members to fill several positions on this nine-person committee. CAC strives to be representative of Canada’s geographic regions as well as of Canadian populations most affected by HIV and related health conditions. In order to maintain this balance, CAC is seeking nominations that reflect the diversity of affected population groups from all parts of Canada.
Potential committee members should have:
• A knowledge of and interest in HIV research, prevention, treatment and care issues
• Demonstrated connection to the community of people living with HIV
• An understanding of issues of importance to various HIV communities
• Proficiency in spoken and written English. Francophones are encouraged to apply.
A scientific background is not required and training materials are provided. Terms of appointment last three years. Nominees will be selected by the Network in consultation with community partners.
Interested individuals should forward a letter of interest and a brief resumé together with a nomination letter from a community group by Monday, February 5th, 2018 to:
